Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP partners Andrew Douglas and Amy Chun will participate as panelists in the upcoming OCTANe discussion panel, “Is ‘Freedom to Operate’ Mission Impossible?” hosted by Knobbe Martens on Thursday, February 21 in the firm’s Orange County office. The discussion, intended to benefit startup companies, will cover the concept of “freedom to operate” in the context of evaluating and mitigating third party patent infringement risk.
Vito Canuso, in-house counsel and IP strategist for ReCor Medical, and Mark Kertz, associate general counsel – intellectual property at Covidien, will be joining Andrew and Amy on the panel. Topics will include how to analyze the third party patent landscape, how to set an appropriate budget based on the company’s objectives, understanding the impact of litigation on the company and what to do if your company is sued.
Andrew’s practice includes patent portfolio management, general counseling on licensing, and other related issues focused in medical devices. Amy primarily represents software and IT clients in matters which include patent litigation, competitor portfolio assessment, open source license review, as well as patent prosecution and strategy.
The event will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Knobbe Martens’ Orange County offices, 2040 Main Street, Irvine, California in the 2nd Floor Conference Center. A hosted lunch will be served.
