In the Law360 article “In Their Words: Women Leaders On Top Advice To Associates,” partner Maria Stout offered guidance to women lawyers who are forging their career paths towards leadership roles.
Stout, who serves on the firm’s Executive Committee, described how she has worked throughout her career to “be comfortable with feeling uncomfortable” when faced with self-doubt and challenging situations as a leader.
When it comes to pursuing leadership positions, Stout recommended that aspiring leaders proactively follow opportunities that interest them, instead of waiting for the “perfect” one to appear. She also encouraged young lawyers to seek out mentor relationships with women in leadership roles, saying, “Learning from and emulating those women will help you pick — and decline — opportunities and positions that make sense for you and your long‑term goals.”
